Beaverton’s skyline may be growing soon! Vancouver Developer, Urban Form Developments, is expected to submit a proposal to the City of Beaverton soon, one that would replace the Cedar Hills Shopping Center with buildings that would contain a total of 58,412 square feet of retail as well as a mix of residential units and a public plaza.
On July 8, 2019, a public meeting was held. Stacy Connery, a project manager and planner with Pacific Community Design discussed some of the project details that are still being sorted out. For example, while the developer is leaning toward residential units such as studios, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments, it has not yet been decided if condominiums will come into play or how much if any of the units will be dedicated to affordable housing. At this time, there is no dedicated commercial space large enough to hold a tenant such as a grocery store, but community residents have indicated that they would like to see the developer bring in at least one commercial tenant that provides food and or fresh produce.
The proposed mixed use project is said to have six buildings, with each building capable of housing five commercial tenants. Current tenants are being given the first option of whether to make the move to the new buildings or to leave. Thus far, we know that 808 Grinds and Dominos will be making the move, while the Beaverton Branch of the Oregon DMV will be leaving.
This is not the first project in Beaverton that Urban Form Development will be taking on. They are currently in the first phase of development on the 13 acre parcel at the corner of TV Highway and Murray, the parcel that once housed KMART as an anchor store. In its place is to be twelve four story buildings that will contain 424 residential units and 31,000 square feet of commercial space. Five of the twelve buildings will be residential only, the remaining buildings a mixed use of commercial and residential. A public plaza, pool, and recreation center are also planned for the development.
‘Which area do you think will benefit the most from Urban Form Developments plans? Cedar Hills or Murray?
