Get Ready to Explore at Jackson Bottom Wetlands

Kingfisher Marsh and Pintail Pond Loop are a part of the 635-acre Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve. The 1.5-mile trail is extremely popular for birdwatchers, trail runners, and hiking, so be prepared that you will likely run into others on this approximately 27-minute hike. The trail is traditionally considered an easy hike with a 19-foot elevation change.
While other trails in our area will allow you to bring your four-legged family members with you, Fido will need to stay at home this time as dogs are not permitted on the trail.
You can expect to see a variety of wildlife during your hike, and you will most likely have the opportunity to see a Great Blue Heron, as this area is where they like to nest. In addition to the Great Blue Heron, a variety of other shore birds can be found, and if you’re lucky, you’ll have the opportunity to see a bald eagle.
When you’re done with your hike, be sure to visit the 12,000-square-foot facility that houses an exhibit hall with interactive exhibits on the wetlands and natural history. One of the treasures here is an exhibit that features the only “authentic” bald eagles nest in the United States.
If you are looking for a unique event space to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion, the Wetlands Nature Center features a 3,000-square-foot deck that overlooks the Preserve. What a backdrop for photos, right? There is also space in the center for a Nature Store and a multipurpose space for programs.
No matter what time of year, the Jackson Bottom Wetlands are always a great place to get out and wildlife in their natural habitat. There is one caveat you’ll want to make sure and call during the winter months because the trails can be flooded out thanks to all of the Oregon rain.
