IT’S GET ORGANIZED MONTH!

January always brings with it the desire to start fresh. Be it your health, relationship, financial, getting organized, etc. I’m sure this is why someone decided that January would make the perfect month to be Get Organized Month. So I thought what better way to celebrate than to take the four Wednesdays of January to focus on different types/forms of organization that you may want to consider and share them with you here on the blog, on Pinterest as well as Instagram.

Today I want to focus on tips from professional organizers. Sometimes it makes my head spin that we collect so much stuff that a whole profession is now dedicated to helping us get it put together. I found the following tips at Meraki Lane .

• WAIT TO BUY STORAGE CONTAINERS I will be the first to admit that I’m guilty of this and then get completely frustrated when I don’t have the right size containers. If you think about it, it totally makes sense to wait before purchasing containers. You’ll be getting rid of stuff, and you’ll then know exactly what you’re organizing and what you need containers for.
• BUY A LABEL MAKER I do love me a good label maker, just remember that when you label something to put the same item back in it after you wash it and put it away. Yes I know this from experience - something gets labeled and then once it’s empty the same thing doesn’t go back in and everyone is confused.
• USE DIGITAL STORAGE/APPS FOR PAPER CLUTTER I will be the first to admit I’m a hoarder of paper. I love having that tangible document to hold in my hand, however it takes up a lot of space. Using a scanner (if you have an iPhone you can scan docs with your camera), cloud storage such as Dropbox, Google Docs, etc. to store important things you need to keep. A tip I use for all of my work receipts that I get - I’ve created a folder in my gmail account titled 2023 Receipts. Everytime I buy something and get a receipt emailed to me, that email goes right into the receipt folder. If I need it I know right where to go, and I don’t have a bunch of paper receipts junking up my office space.
• GET EVERYONE IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD INVOLVED. Let’s be honest, if everyone in your house isn’t onboard with what you’re doing, the system you create is never going to work because they won’t put stuff back where it belongs.
• TREAT YOUR HOME AS IF YOU ARE A GUEST, NOT A RESIDENT. Damn this is a good tip. You would never go to visit someone and start dumping all of our items all over the place. You would carefully put it back where you found it, or put it in a place that wasn’t in the way.

I have to say that professional organizers have some amazing tips to help us keep the clutter at bay, and reorganize our homes so that they are a place we can relax in because if we’re being honest clutter can certainly stress you out right?
